He also falls in love with Biro (played by Sonam Kapoor) who persuades him to live honestly. He is selected for service commission where he is beaten by seniors whom he had defeated earlier, just 1 day before selection in Olympics. In spite of the injury, he decides to participate, wins the race and breaks the national record. During the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, he gets attracted to a girl. He sleeps with her and feels exhausted and loses the race the next day.

Jawaharlal Nehru convinces him to for a friendly match against Pakistani athlete Abdul Khalif. Finally, in the race initially Pakistani favorite is leading but then Bhaag Milkha Bhaag overtakes and wins the race. The real-life story of Milkha Singh is undoubtedly inspiring.
